The Frame TV: For When You Don’t Want To See a TV

Television has become more exciting than ever with high-resolution smart TV’s and tons of streaming services at our disposal. However outside of a media room, a TV can be an unsightly addition to an otherwise beautiful space. Here at Soundvision, we create solutions that allow you to enjoy television in any room without leaving a glaring black rectangle on your wall. The most popular way to do this is with the Frame TV.

When not in use, the Frame TV turns into a piece of artwork of your choice. You read that right. You set the photo matte the artwork, and the TV handles the rest. It uses a proximity and light sensor to make sure its at the right brightness at all times. And now with the anti-reflective coating, the Frame TV looks like real art to untrained eye. If you tell a guest it’s a TV, they might be able to tell. But passively, it blends in beautifully.

You can customize nearly every aspect of the artwork, including the color of the matting. If you prefer a more personal touch, you can add your own personal photos to the TV. Every Frame TV is mounted flush to the wall just like a true piece of artwork. With a SoundVision installation, you won’t even so much as see a wire.

Of course, the artwork is only half of it. It has to be presented like artwork. There are a number of colors, finishes and styles of frames for you to pick from. Check out a few ways our customers have added the Frame TV into their home.

Frame TV Above a Fireplace

Placing artwork above the fireplace has always been a classic decor choice. For this customer, we installed the Frame TV above the fireplace in a Kentfield home. This allows the homeowner to enjoy their TV from the sitting area and the kitchen. The photo mat’s color complements the accent colors used in the room's decorative pillows, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Frame TV Above the Bar

The Frame TV in this in-home bar transforms the space from a serving area into the ultimate entertainment spot. Discreetly designed to match the bar’s aesthetic, the Frame TV is an decorative element that also functions as a source of movies, background TV or the game!

Without the Frame TV, this space would be forced to have a black void on the wall from a traditional TV. Alternatively, this room could have no TV and then only be used to make drinks! However, thanks to the Frame TV’s ability to match the design, this bar is the perfect place to unwind with drinks and watch the game, making it the bar to be at!

Custom Frame On A Frame TV

Thanks to the nearly infinite customizability, this Frame TV seamlessly blends into this space. This example of the Frame TV stands out from other installations thanks to its custom frame. Samsung offers one standard frame in four colors. If you want a frame of a different width, style or material, there is Deco TV Frames.

Deco TV Frames can offer dozens of frame options. Their custom frames allow the Frame TV to match any home's style perfectly. This allows the customer to have all the joys of a TV while maintaining the style and aesthetics of their home.

A Fine Art Entertainment Solution

One of the more elegant solutions for adding a TV to a room without disturbing the decor and design is the Media Décor Elite art lift. Our most important goal at SoundVision is to implement audio/video equipment that is practically invisible. Not only does it disappear, but we design all our San Francisco Bay Area installs to be intuitive enough to user so you can spend more time enjoying your system and less time learning it.

Media Décor Elite art lift revealing a television

The Media Décor Elite allows us to install a beautiful work of art that silently rolls up to reveal a TV (or even a TV and soundbar).

With nearly 100 frame options and over 2300 art choices you are able to create an art installation that fits your interior design, and your personality. And if for some reason you can’t find the art that suits you best, custom options are available.

The giclée prints offer fantastic, museum-quality color reproduction, and the texture of the canvas creates an authentic experience. The canvas is lined with magnetic strips that keep the image taut in the frame as it rolls up and down, ensuring a perfect presentation every time.

Samsung Frame TV Pro: Hesitantly Excited

In 2025, Samsung expanded the Frame TV lineup with a new Frame TV Pro. While our customers love the Frame TV, we see it as a way to add television in spaces where it wouldn’t generally fit, rather than providing a TV for anyone who would classify themselves as anything beyond a casual viewer. For those who were true movie lovers and yearned for great picture quality, the Frame TV fell short. The Frame TV Pro hoped to close that gap by using Samsung’s Neo QLED display panels. This offered marginally better picture, but at a great price.

The Reason We Avoid The Frame TV Pro.

While we welcome better picture quality, the Frame TV exclusively comes with a wireless One Connect box.

What is a One Connect Box

For those unfamiliar, the Frame TV uses an external box that, traditionally, was where you connected all your TV inputs/sources and the power cable. Then, that box would connect to the Frame TV with a single, thin cable. This keeps the Frame TV thin and minimizes the number of wires you have to run. With this box, the standard Frame TV has one cable to the TV for power and picture.

Why The Frame TV Pro Is Different

The Frame TV Pro adopts a wireless One Connect box. However, the Frame TV Pro now requires its own power cable in conjunction with the power cable for the One Connect box. From a setup perspective, this change doesn’t feel like an improvement. You have the same amount of devices and the same number of wires that need to be run. Instead of a wire from the Frame TV to the One Connect box, it now goes into a power outlet.

Most importantly, the entire picture now streams wirelessly to the TV. We see this as a reliability issue and failure point. Does the wireless get worse over time? How sensitive is the interference? How reliable is the connection? Can it be fine for weeks and then suddenly drop in and out?

We Learned First Hand: No More Frame TV Pro.

Unfortunately, we got the answer to all our questions first hand. When it launched, Larger Frame TV’s were only available in the Pro model. We have had a number of instances where these boxes have been finicky. Some with connection issues when the One Connect box was right behind the TV.

While some installations worked like magic, allowing the box in one corner and the TV in the other, many more caused headaches for customers. We think we’re not alone on this, as Samsung began re-offering the Frame TV non pro in sizes up to 98”. So unless a customer states otherwise, we still prefer the standard Frame TV.
